Could aRed Dead Redemption 2television or movie adaptation be in the works at some point? It will ifThe Witcherstar Henry Cavillhas anything to say about it. Cavill is quickly becoming the actor who is all about making as many video game adaptations as possible. While The Witcher is based more on the books than the game, Cavill clearly understands that the Netflix show is bringing in plenty of fans of the video game as well.
Cavill is also one of those actors that truly does play video games. That’s what’s sparked his interest in eventually doing some kind ofadaptation from theWarhammerfranchise. It’s also apparently why he would like to star in an adaptation ofRDR2, should that ever become a reality.

While he was walking the red carpet atThe WitcherSeason 2 premiere, Henry Cavill was asked what other video games he might like to adapt. Speaking to Game Reactor, he said that was a bit of a tricky question, because he didn’t want to put himself in any corners. However, he went on to say that he’s been playing quite a bit ofRed Dead Redemption 2lately and that he really liked the story in that game. While admitting that he was a bit late to the party when it came toRDR2, he thought it would be fun to do something with that IP.
When Cavill says that he’s late to the party, he means thatRed Dead Redemption 2was released back in 2018. However, he can be forgiven if he’s a bit behind when it comes to his catalog, considering he’s been quite busy starring as Superman in the DCEU series and as Geralt of Rivia. That could also be why the actor still hasn’t finished theDLC forThe Witcher 3, though he’s said he’s going to correct that soon.
It’s important to point out that Henry Cavill was not making any claims that aRed Dead Redemptionadaptation is anywhere in the works. It appears this was nothing more than a suggestion of the top of his head when he was asked a very specific question.
On the other hand, these kinds of adaptations are becoming more frequent, especially on streaming services. Netflix just launched the first season ofArcane, earlier this winter which is an animated series based onLeague of Legends. In the world of live-action adaptations, Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann justwrapped up production for HBO Max’sThe Last of Usseries. Keeping all that in mind, aRed Dead Redemption 2adaptation doesn’t seem all that unlikely.
