Henry Cavill is excited to return to hisMan of Steelroots as Superman. While talking about his return to the role, he even seemed to allude to future stories that would include an “enormously joyful” Superman.
Cavill made his debut asSupermanin 2013’sMan of Steel,the film that kicked off the DC Extended Universe. Many found Cavill perfect for the role, but Cavill’s return has been in question in recent years. DC Films has been undergoing a creative and corporate restructuring that seemed to leave the question of whether or not Cavill would return up in the air.

In an interview withJosh Horowitzfor a live recording of theHappy Sad Confused Podcast, Cavill spoke of his excitement to return to the role. Confiding that he’d always been hoping to return as Superman, Cavill carefully teased fans with what’s coming next. Though sources toldThe Hollywood Reporterthat Warner Bros. was soliciting pitches forMan of Steelsequels, Cavill was committed to staying quiet, saying, “Right now I can’t share anything…but in time, I’ll be able to share and everyone will hear all the exciting things to come.” He even shared that he had filmed hisBlack Adamcameo while filmingThe Witcher,for which he had to get permission from the higher-ups.
Cavill’s future at DC may involve a Superman and Black Adam showdown, as it wasDwayne Johnson who officially welcomed Cavill back, and Johnson has expressed an interest in seeing Black Adam and Superman go up against one another. But Cavill also teased what the character would be like in future installments. “There is such a bright future ahead for the character, and I’m so excited to tell a story with an enormously joyful Superman.”
Ever since theBlack Adammid-credits scene leaked, there has been excitement among Superman fans. Cavill is frequently touted as a stronger part of the DCEU, which has had its ups and downs. Now that the character’s re-introduction is fully behind him, Cavill can finally play a more classic type of Superman.
WithJames Gunn and Peter Safran at the head of DC Studiosnow, there’s room for some new stories and character interpretations. Hopefully, whoever is chosen to runMan of Steel 2- which will be released over a decade after the first film - understands Superman well and understands what fans want
