There has been a lot to talk about in regards to theHalofranchise this year between everything going on withHaloInfiniteleading up to its release and the frequent content updates toHalo: The Master Chief Collection. Unfortunately for fans of the latter, it looks like updates to the game will be a lot smaller starting in 2022.
According to a blog post on Halo Waypoint,Halo: The Master Chief Collection’s Season 8 will be the final major content update for the game. The blog post reassures fans that the game will still continue receiving support followingHalo Infinite’s launch, but that 343 Industries will be drastically rolling back the update sizes and moving away from larger seasonal changes.

The post clarifies in saying that very little of the team working onThe Master Chief Collectionalso works onHalo Infinite, but that it doesn’t make sense for the studio to fully support two nearly identical multiplayer games. 343 reiterates several times that support altogether isn’t going to stop, but it will look different followingthe launch ofThe MCC’s Season 8. The post highlights modding as potentially being the future of new content coming to the game as it can be more community-driven and 343 will be able to divert its efforts elsewhere.
Modding forThe Master Chief Collectionhas been a relatively new addition, but 343 Industries makes a special point to say that it will continue providing more modding kits and supporting the community. Currently, the team has plans to allow for officialHalo 2andHalo 3mods to be made, but there isn’t any date on when fans can expect to be given the kits. Based on the post, it seems like all of 343’sMCCefforts are being devoted to Season 8 and the other updates and features mentioned in the post will be coming following its launch.
There’s a lot of great content coming toThe Master Chief Collectionfor Season 8, so it feels like a good sendoff for the seasonal content in the game. While plenty of fans will likely be disappointed by the news that focus is shifting more toHalo Infinite’s multiplayeronce it launches, the seasonal content for the game should feel relatively similar as the blog post gives the impression that much of the current team working onMCC’s multiplayer will also be working onInfinitepost-launch.
