Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3has broken a world record that was previously held byThe Grinch. The news comes just over a year before the James Gunn film is set to be released in theaters.

Guardians of the Galaxyis Marvel’s team of galactic heroes that get into all kinds of trouble and saves the universe from time to time. They quickly became one of Marvel fans' favorite characters following their galactic MCU debut. Once they met the Avengers, fans loved the interactions between all of these personalities in one place. The upcomingVol. 3will unfortunately be the last film for this team, but hopefully there’s a way for them to come back ina future Marvel project.

Gunn announced thatGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3passed the world record for “the most makeup appliances created for a single production.” The director said he heard the news from Legacy Effects and went on to highlight those who keep practical effects alive, which is the alternative to computer generated effects. On the bright side, the movie breaking a record should tell fans what they can expect to see in the final film. It looks like there will be a lot of scars or prosthetics for the impending battles inVol. 3, which means that the film will look amazing when fans see it in theaters, and it won’t only be CGI. Many films typically rely on computer enhanced technology to achieve different effects, so it’ll be a breath of fresh air to see how they achieve the task of creating this world using practical effects.

It will be a cool Easter egg for fans to spot and point out each instance where a special effect is utilized while also noticing the practical effects.Karen Gillan recently showed her battle scarsas the character Nebula. Based on where the events ended during the climatic moments ofAvengers: Endgame,Nebula is joining the team as a temporary member forGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

It was previously reported that not only will Nebula be joining as the protagonist of this film, but the story will focus on therelationship with her adoptive sister Gamora. Hopefully this sits well with fans and serves as a minor character study, as it’s the only scenario in which Nebula is going to be the more ‘mature’ sibling since this version of Gamora is from the past timeline, when she was far more ruthless.

Vol. 3will finallyintroduce Adam Warlock, which was teased at the end of the second film. The character was initially thought to be brought in for the battle against Thanos, but now it looks like that’s clearly not happening, and he will instead be one of the many newcomers being brought in for the thirdGuardiansfilm. Many are excited to see this movie, but right now it’s time forMoon KnightandDoctor Strange 2before Marvel Studios even shows a trailer, let alone an official poster forGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3is scheduled to be released in theaters on Jun 20, 2025.
