It hasn’t been too long since Marvel debuted their Halloween-focused special presentation ofWerewolf by Night, but fans are getting an early taste of the Christmas season with the new trailer for theGuardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.Written and directed by James Gunn, the special appears to be bringing at least some of the guardians to Earth in order to find a very special gift.

Chris Pratt’s gig providing Mario’s voicehasn’t stood in the way of his return as Star-Lord. The special appears to be focusing on his depression after losing Gamora inAvengers: Infinity War(and then, technically, again inAvengers: Endgame). On top of that, it’s the holiday season on Earth, adding another layer of melancholy for poor Peter Quill.

Luckily, the stalwart hero has plenty of great friends who want to cheer him up, including Dave Bautista’s Drax and Pom Klementieff’s Mantis. The two of them make a quick trip to Earth in order to find the perfect gift for Quill: Kevin Bacon (who will be appearing as himself in the special). There are some other quick glimpses of holiday hijinx, and a rundown of the cast. That includes Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Vin Diesel as Groot (who is looking much bigger than he did in theI Am Groot animated shorts), Karen Gillan as Nebula, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, and an appearance by Cosmo the Spacedog.

Despite filming of the Holiday Special being delayed by COVID-19, the Christmas-themed adventure is due to arrive on November 25th. James Gunn has previously said thatthe special is a must-watch beforeGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, so fans of the series will want to make sure and tune in to catch all of the important details. This also sets the special further apart from the recentWerewolf By Night, which was more standalone in nature.

Gunn also took time to addresswhen this special takes place in the grand Marvel Cinematic Timeline, noting that it would be considered the epilogue of phase four, arriving afterBlack Panther: Wakanda Foreverbut beforeAnt-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania(whose trailer just dropped this week). Regardless of when it takes place, the special looks like it will be the perfect blend of silliness and heartfelt emotion, a combination that Gunn has mastered over his time working with both Marvel and DC.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Specialarrives on Disney Plus on November 25th.
