God of War Ragnarok Release Date Still Expected For This Year

God of War Ragnarokis one of the most highly anticipated games of 2022. It was initially revealed at the end of a PlayStation Showcase event in September 2020, and developer Santa Monica Studio released an exciting trailer the following year. Since then, Sony hasn’t released much aboutKratos’ next Norse adventure.

The original teaser forGod of War Ragnarokconsisted of a logo and the year 2021. Many users probably expected it to get pushed to 2022 due to how little information was revealed. Sony officially delayedGod of War Ragnarokto 2022 in June of last year, and a developer at Santa Monica Studio reiterates that the game will release this year.

Bruno Velazquez, Animation Director at Santa Monica Studio, confirms thatGod of War Ragnarokis on track to release in 2022. He answers a question asked by a fan on Twitter, who appears to be looking for some assurance regarding the game’s release date. The fan seems to have complete confidence in the development team and mentions that they don’t want to see any footage.

2018’sGod of War, the first game in the franchise to be set in Norse mythology, was released on April 20. Cory Barlog, the director of the 2018 game, gave anupdate on the status ofGod of War Ragnarokon its 4-year anniversary. In the video, he mentions that the team does not have anything significant to share, and everyone at Santa Monica Studio is working hard to finish the game. He states that players will see footage fromGod of War Ragnarokas soon as the team feels it has something to share.

AsGod of War Ragnarokwas initially scheduled to release in 2021, it makes sense for the game not to face further delays beyond 2022. However, anything can happen between now and the studio’s internal targets, so fans will have to wait for Santa Monica Studio to share the official date. Sony will probably host aState of Play event forGod of War Ragnarokto go over all the new features and improvements.

2022 has already been an excellent year for Sony as it releasedHorizon Forbidden WestandGran Turismo 7to rave reviews. This is not excluding Bungie’sDestiny 2: The Witch Queen, also one of the highest-rated games of the year. AssumingGod of War Ragnarokreleases by the end of the year, 2022 will probably go down as one of the best years for PlayStation Studios.
