AGod of Warfan has made a workout video inspired by the quick-time events (QTEs) that were so common throughout the original trilogy. AlthoughGod of Warhas seen Kratos attempt to distance himself from the brutality of his past, fans still remember the devastating path of chaos he pursued through the Greek pantheon.

Although featured less prominently in the two most recent installments of the series, everyGod of Warentry has been known to include QTEsfor specific actions, where players have to either enter a series of inputs that correspond to differing button prompts or rapidly press a single one. It was a significant deviation for the franchise, which had previously used QTEs against larger enemies, mini-games, and boss fights. An especially barbaric example was when Kratos butchers Hermes, preventing him from running by slashing his legs off in what once was the God of War’s traditional style.

A video posted to Reddit, created by danny_lazarus, presents a gym workout involving several different pieces of equipment, each with a QTE. A rotating, glowing circle hovers over a bench press, just likehowGod of Warwould indicate the beginning of a QTE, with a person waiting for the event to commence. The screen freezes, affording viewers time to read “Press [the X button] to complete the workout of the Gods,” which is then initiated and requires a stick to be rotated. After the user lays back and lifts the bar, the glowing circle returns, but this time moves up and down continuously, prompting rapid mashing for the workout to be completed.

Interspersed throughout are momentswhere the art style forGod of Waris mimicked, and the person working out adopts the appearance of Kratos. It occurs during the use of battle ropes, which require the consecutive inputs of the left and right buttons for them to be operated. The workout concludes with hammer curls as square and circle alternate control of each arm, which then makes use of “L3 + R3… God of War available,” to once again assume the form of Kratos and finish with a hilariously captioned combo streak.

A final pop-up writes “put the weights back now,” offering Kratos important gym etiquette a little too late, seeing as the free weights were thrown down moments before. Despite these QTEs no longer being a part ofGod of War, those that do remainhave benefited fromGod of War Ragnarok’s extensive accessibility features. For any who wish to experience a more comfortable gameplay experience, rapid inputs can be altered to require holding instead, making such moments much easier on the hands.

God of War Ragnarokis out now for PS4 and PS5.
