Back to All Characters
With the release ofGenshin Impact’s 4.0 version update, players are introduced to the long-awaited next region of Teyvat, Fontaine, where they will have new mechanics to explore, new areas to discover, and meet new characters among other gameplay aspects. One of the first characters players will be able to obtain is Lyney, alongsideLynetteandFreminet, who is also the first 5-star character of the Fontaine roster.

Lyney has a rather unique kit inGenshin Impact, which benefits from having certain elements in theteam composition, quite similarly to Nilou, even though it is not as strict or niche as hers. This is because one of Lyney’s passives benefits from the enemies having Pyro application on them, as well as there being other Pyro characters in the team to be able to buff this damage increase even further. As such, when Lyney is paired with the right team composition, he has the potential to deal significant damage with high modifiers, even though strong elemental reactions like Vaporize or Melt may not be present.
Best Lyney Team Composition
Lyney’s role in the team composition is being the main DPS, who primarily utilizes charged attacks and elemental skill to deal single target damage. The ideal composition for Lyney is when 2 other Pyro characters and one flexible support character from another element are utilized. With that, the best characters to pairLyney with are Bennett, Xiangling, and Kazuha. In this team composition, the team can achieve consistent Pyro application and reach the maximum amount of buff from Lyney’s passive, allowing for the highest damage potential from Lyney, especially if players have access to all constellations of Bennett and Xiangling. This team composition primarily focus on mid-close combat, since the players will need to have a short distance from enemies to be able to hit them with Xiangling’s Pyronado, while also ensuring they remain in Bennett and Kazuha’s field.

Bennett:Healer, Buffer, Battery
In this team composition, Bennett is well utilized, and in fact, it is one of the teams that can make the best use of his infamous sixth constellation. This is because, while Lyney won’t be able to infuse his normal attacks with Pyro since he is a bow character, he and the rest of the party will still be able to benefit from the Pyro DMG increase he provides when the characters are within the field created through his Elemental Burst.
Additionally,Bennett will be able to healand provide an ATK buff for the party, and Lyney, being an attack-scaling character with one of the highest base attacks, can utilize this well. Lastly, when built with an optimal energy recharge rate, Bennett also functions as the team’s particle generator, which is quite crucial for characters like Xiangling who generally requires a battery.

Xiangling: Sub-DPS, Buffer
Xiangling’s role in the team is primarily to provide support with off-field AoE damage, using both Guoba and Pyronado. Therefore, players need to focus on activating Xiangling’s Pyronado as consistently as possible. With her sixth constellation, having Pyronado active will also grant a 15% Pyro DMG bonus, similar to Bennett’s sixth constellation. Additionally, placing Guoba properly can be helpful, as its attacks reduce enemies' Pyro RES. This may require some crowd control, however, as Guoba is not always consistent in targeting the right enemies.
Kazuha:Buffer, Crowd Control
Kazuha brings significant value to the team by primarily buffing the team’s Elemental DMG while also utilizing Viridescent Venerer to debuff enemies. Additionally, Kazuha’s elemental skill can be well utilized to group enemies, which significantly helps with Guoba, as well as other mechanics the characters utilize.
Other Viable Pyro Characters
Players who are yet to build Bennett and Xiangling, or simply want to utilize them elsewhere, still have a good number of options they can choose from, especially if they are looking for a more defensive setup that can help Lyney get staggered less while using charged attacks.

Thoma:Shielder, Buffer with constellation
Thoma’s primary role is to shield the team while also applying Pyro to enemies, although at a slower rate than Xiangling’s Pyronado. Additionally, if players have access to Thoma’s sixth constellation, he can be helpful in buffing Lyney’s charged attacks as long as there is an active Blazing Barrier.
Dehya:Defensive, Sub-DPS
Players who enjoyDehya as a character but have yet to find a suitable teamto utilize her effectively can find her quite useful alongside Lyney. Her ability to provide resistance to interruption and damage mitigation to the team can come in handy. It’s important to note, however, that in this composition,Dehyawill be mostly utilized off-field. Players will rely on her Elemental Skill to place the field for her defensive capabilities while also providing some AoE damage. On the other hand, it is recommended that players do not focus significantly on her elemental burst, as this can actually cause the team to deal less damage. This is due to the fact that it allows Dehya to launch uncontrollable attacks.
Xinyan:Shielder, Sub-DPS
Xinyanis another excellent Pyro character option for shield generation as well as to bring additional AoE capability to the team. Upon hitting 2 or more enemies once ascended, she will generate a strong shield that also provides Pyro application on enemies. Additionally, her elemental burst deals high scaling AoE damage, albeit it is Physical DMG instead of Pyro DMG, except for the additional Pyro explosions that occur afterward. However, the rest of the kit doesn’t significantly benefit Lyney or the rest of the team since the buffs/debuffs given focus on Physical DMG as well.
Yanfei:Shielder, Sub-DPS, Healing
Upon unlockingYanfei’s fourth constellation, she gains the ability to shield the team, which offers a unique way of utilizing Yanfei in the team, often referred to as “Tankfei” by players. With this approach, players can use Yanfei in an off-field manner, employing a different build for her weapons and artifacts. In this build, Yanfei will also typically usePrototype Amber, which provides team healing alongside her own. However, it’s important to note that for Tankfei to be a viable option in Lyney’s team composition, she must be built optimally; otherwise, her performance may lag behind that ofDehyaorXinyan.
Other Element Characters
If players wish to use a different character in place of Kazuha, there are other viable options, with most of the better choices still being Anemo characters for Viridescent Venerer and Pyro application support.

Venti:Buffer, Crowd Control, Battery
Players seeking a character with a role similar to Kazuha’s can also benefit greatly from Venti. However, in this case, they will rely more on Venti’s own Swirl damage and battery potential, rather than boosting the team’s Elemental Damage. Nonetheless, since Venti can effectively use the Viridescent Venerer set, players can still enhance the team’s overall damage output.
Additionally, as a bow user, Lyney doesn’t suffer from Venti’s crowd control lifting light enemies like some melee characters do. This allows players to maintain more distance from the enemies if they choose to do so. For those without access to both Venti and Kazuha, Sucrose might also be considered. However, specifically for a mono Pyro team, she may not bring as much value as the other two to the team.

Zhongli:Shielder, Buffer
Zhongli is one of the most viablenon-Pyro or Anemo support players can utilize with Lyney. This is because, alongside providing one of the strongest shields in the game, he will also increase the team’s Physical and Elemental RES, their resistance to interruption, as well as reduce the opponent’s RES while the characters are still shielded. As such, considering that a team utilizes Xiangling, they can highly benefit from close-range combat, ensuring that players will be able to take a defensive stance while doing so. An important potential downside with this composition, however, is to ensure that Pyro is still being applied consistently, since Zhongli’s Geo constructs can create Crystallize reactions and remove the Pyro application on enemies often.
Lynette:Buffer, Crowd Control
Players who are particularly keen on having the twins together in the party will be happy to know that this is actually quite possible without harming the overall team synergy. In such a team composition, Lynette will particularly benefit the team with her Elemental Burst, which will deal Anemo damage in intervals while also taunting enemies, allowing an extra taunt and crowd control mechanic to be established alongside Lyney’s own taunt possibility. Additionally, Lynette having Ousia as her Arkhe, as opposed to Lyney being Pneuma, will also help the team against certain opponents, or for solving puzzles specifically in the Fontaine region.
It’s important to note that, unlike Lyney, Lynette actually benefits from having as many different elemental types in the team composition. She will still buff the team’s ATK, which brings an additional buff to Lyney. Furthermore, Lynette is also able to utilize Viridescent Veneer to increase her buffing potential. Considering that Lynette is freely obtainable, this also allows players to build an entirely F2P party alongside Lyney, thanks to Xiangling and Bennett also being obtainable freely.

Jean:Buffer, Healer
Considering that the team also utilizes Bennett, it creates an excellent opportunity for a “Sunfire” composition, enabling Pyro to be consistently swirled as long asBennettandJean’sElemental Burst fields are active. With that, the team will require high energy regeneration; however, onceJean is built specificallyfor that, it can create a unique playstyle for those looking for a different way of combining characters. Since Jean is also able to utilize Viridescent Venerer, she will be debuffing the enemies once again while also creating a field where the team is consistently healed. In particular, when players have access to Jean’s later constellations, she can also effectively work as a Swirl Sub-DPS character.
