Summary

Every video game out there hasa predicted play time;the amount of time that it takes the average player to finish the game. This could mean that the story is only a few hours long, but earning collectibles and other extra content adds to that total. Many gamers will return to the same video games time and again, either because the game is just that fun, or because there are separate story paths with different outcomes to find.

There are also some games that are designed to be played differently with each new run. As such, there are some video games out there that are different with every playthrough.

A house in The Sims 4

The main premise behindThe Simsgames is that they are a creation sandbox. This means that players can open up the game at any time and design the house, family, or neighborhood that they want. Once these factors have been designed, players are then freeto interact with their Simsand the world however they see fit.

While there are a finite number of creation options, there are still so many that players will rarely find themselves making the same family or house on more than one occasion. Also, the sheer amount of interaction and career options means that gamers will be taking their Sims on a new adventure every time they start a new game.

mount and blade 2 bannerlord combat companion

Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlordis an epic historical adventure set among a series of kingdoms in a medieval landscape. Players start by building a character and then begin to explore the world in any way they want. They can become a merchant, mercenary, or even start a new kingdom. Each path requires a single set of skills to achieve and the right relationships with set followers or NPCs.

What makes it so difficult to replicatea previous playthrough ofMount and Blade 2: Bannerlordis that the kingdoms in the game all interact with each other as the game progresses. That means one kingdom could be extremely powerful in one playthrough or completely destitute the next. Also, failing combat encounters can be devastating for group morale and company provisions. As such, one arrow in a battle can make all the difference.

hades title card

The son of Hades has been stuck in hell for eternity and finally wants to walk among mortals. However, his father isn’t happy about it and will charge a number of demons with preventing his escape. Some of the other gods will help by bestowing the player with certain powers, but they aren’t always around when the player needs them.

SinceHadesis a roguelike game, the number of enemies and their type will vary from room to room as will the player’s buffs. Some of the bosses will return at certain points, but every time the player is killed they are sent back to the start of the game. This means that they must journey through another series of randomized rooms and build up their powers once more.

TheFableseries may not have delivered everything it promised when it arrived in 2004, but the game still has a lot of content regardless. The focus of this fantasy RPG is to provide players with moral choices throughout the game that will affect the player’s appearance and how NPCs react around them.

While it is easy to go directly down the true good or evil path in these games, there is a lot ofmiddle ground to exploreas well. Plus, a slew of spells and combat styles make it easy to have a new experience withFableeach time.

Skyrim character creation

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrimis a game with one set story. The player must take on the role of the Dragonborn and slay Alduin in Sovengard. While players may have performed this task many times over the last ten years, it is unlikely that they have done so as the same character.

The wide range ofcharacter customization optionsand choices on the skill tree means that players can always approach each story mission differently during each replay. Also, the world ofSkyrimis huge. Even if players manage to see and do everything, they are unlikely to do it in the same order the next time around.

Isaac alone in a dungeon

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirthis a roguelike that is very true to its genre. Almost everything in the game is randomly generated as players attempt to take the poor infantthrough a demonic basementand escape.

Every enemy encounter is different, and the player will encounter a new boss on every level. Power-ups are hidden in chests, but some can only be unlocked with a specific key. This means unlocking one can involve looking in an adjacent room or searching a completely new map. The only enemy that remains the same in the game is the final boss, the Mother’s Foot, and players will only see this more than once if they lose and have to journey through the whole game again for a rematch.
