ManyNintendoconsoles have been released over the years with their own lines of merchandise, and one gamer has found a rare N64 sign in their collection. Since the NES boosted the popularity of gaming in the 1980s,Nintendohas maintained a sizable audience, and many have been clambering for retro things that invoke nostalgia, like the large N64 item found by this gamer.
The N64 is thethird console from Nintendo, and it’s part of the fifth overall generation as it followed the Super Nintendo, which also still has its own community of dedicated fans that collect the games and merch alike. With how well the N64 sold on release and how many players have been introduced to the console, there are many gamers going beyond collecting the full library and have expanded into rarer items. While this gamer has a Nintendo 64 sign that belongs in such a collection, the owner isn’t immediately sure of where it came from, which points even further to its rarity.

Reddit user Scrayt has garnered several hundred upvotes and started a conversation with a photo of their rare N64 sign, reaching out to others for help researching their find. Based on feedback and photos fromthe N64 era, the rare sign that Scrayt discovered is for the top of demo booths for the consoles that were typically featured at retail outlets that sold them. Though these headers are normally placed at the top of these interactive gaming stations, the one in Scrayt’s photo is visibly standalone, which may be exactly what some collectors are looking for. The gray and blue sign has the iconic N64 logo toward the bottom, with the full name stretching across the middle and a red arrow pointing toward both from the top. Though it wasn’t shown by Scrayt, the N64 sign slightly changes color once the station has been turned on, but it’s currently unclear if this one has the necessary wiring to illuminate it. Nintendo fans that recognize the N64 signage may have seen it in stores next to other booths for consoles from around the time, likethe first PlayStationor Sega Dreamcast, which both featured 3D visuals like the aforementioned Nintendo console.
Possibly in an attempt to capitalize on the lack of information about the Nintendo sign, some fans suggested that the object was actually worth very little and could be offloaded to them with ease. Given that Scrayt seemingly has little attachment to the sign unlikeother N64 enthusiastsand their collections, the Reddit user may be researching it to find the right listing price for it as they referenced a 2021 eBay post selling one like it for $2900.
