Fortnitehas gone through a dramatic transformation with the release of Chapter 2’s Season 3 this past week. The map has been flooded as a result of a dramatic apocalyptic event, or at least the near aversion of one. But the changes are apparently still coming inFortnite’s latest season.Fortnitedataminers have yet against discovered a curiosity hidden in the game’s files. It appears that an unused location named The Ruins Falls or something similar.

Fortniteleaker FortTory makes the reveal, saying that they discovered an encryptedPoint of Interest inFortnite’s files. As such, it isn’t actually in the game. It’s just a loose data point. The POI is named “POI_TheRuinsFall,” a location name that doesn’t fit with any current in-gameFortnitelocation. As such, FortTory believes it refers to  a different location that’s not in the game.

FortTory decided to investigate the newFortnitemap a little more closely to see if any specific locations stood out, just based on this mystery location’s name. After removing some water from a certain section of the map, they discovered what looks to be a tiered/sloping map location that could potentially be used for a waterfall. The screenshot does look somewhat likeLoot Lakeafter the cube explosion, as in an area that could have waterfalls and shallow water where players could still run and gun.

Obviously, this location is not currently inFortnite. It’s completely underwater for the time being. And if it is related to the newly discovered but unused POI, it isn’t clear if it used to be map location that was canceled or if it’s perhaps a location that will be added later in theSeason 3.

As with Loot Lake’s history, Epic Games is more than willing to changeFortnite’s map in significant ways mid-season. Points of Interest are created and Points of Interest are destroyed. The Ruins Falls or whateverEpic Gameswants to call it could be just a week or few away.

One of the great things about thenew wateryFortnitemapis how malleable it could be. When everything’s a distinct island or a man-made floating structure, things can move, sink, or reappear as necessary. Epic may not get too crazy, so players can keep track of things, but hopefully it has fun with the map’s structure, too.

Fortniteis available now on PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
