Summary

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthdirector Naoki Hamaguchi teases fans about how there will be more alternate costumes for gamers to outfit their party with. The second part of theFF7remake is releasing in February 2024, with anticipation at an all-time high. Square Enix has been giving fans plenty of new details regarding the JRPG, such as themini-games found atRebirth’s Golden Saucer, the battles in the open-world, and more. One understated mechanic fans may not have considered immediately was the possibility of new alternate costumes.

InFinal Fantasy 7 Remake, there isn’t an option to give characters alternate costumes or clothes to wear in-game. The closest that players can give characters alternate costumes would be duringFinal Fantasy 7 Remake’s Don Corneo infiltration mission, which gives the player the ability to dress Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith in three different dresses. Modders have taken the time to give characters a variety of costume options, granting characters outfits based on otherFinal Fantasygames or entries in theFinal Fantasy 7canon. According toRebirth’s director, there will be more options for alternate costumes in the game.

This tidbit was mentioned at a community event that took place at Paris Game Week, where there was a question and answer period with the developers ofRebirth(transcribed and archived by FFdream), featuring producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi. The two were asked ifFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirthwould feature additional outfits, likethe costumes seen inFinal Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis. Kitase answers that they haven’t thought about any additional DLC costumes, but teases “there are some [costumes] that are very well hidden inFF7 Rebirth.” Hamaguchi adds there will also be more choices than in the previous game as well.

Hamaguchi states that players who love spending time changing the looks of their party will enjoyFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s costume choices. Based on Kitase and Hamaguchi’s answers, this implies that these outfits can be found only if a player goes off the beaten path and completes some ofRebirth’s side quests. They don’t go into detail about whether these costumes are cosmetic only or if they can modify a character’s stats.

For the moment, we haven’t thought about DLC, but regarding costumes, there are perhaps some that are very well hidden inFF7 Rebirth.

There will be more choices than in the previous game, so if you like spending time changing the look of characters, you’ll have a good time.

In the aforementionedEver Crisis, every single character in the game can wear a different outfit from their usual attire, which provides a variety of different buffs, allowing for characters to embody different roles. For example, Cloud has a unique samurai outfit, the Murasame Battle Garb, which is best used if a player wants to run a DPS-focused Cloud. Other outfits include a Chocobo Suit for Aerith, a costume based onFinal Fantasy 9’s Amarant Coralfor Tifa, and more. Any of these costumes fromEver Crisiscould be good choices forRebirth.
