Summary
Amid a busy March,Final Fantasy 14released the patch notes for its 6.58 content update, which covered some bug fixes and adjustments to a few Job actions in PVP.Final Fantasy 14also confirmed that Patch 6.58 would allow players to gain rewards faster from the Thaleia alliance raid and The Abyssal Fracture (Extreme) trial.
Patch 6.58 is slated to be the last content update toFinal Fantasy 14until the release of theDawntrailexpansion in the summer, barring any technical issues. The 6.58 update also arrived two days before the expected launch of the Xbox Series X/S version ofFinal Fantasy 14. Just before the Xbox version went live, Square Enix confirmed thatXbox console players would be required to use a new currencycalled “FFXIV Coins” on the Mog Station and Online Store. However, this change was exclusive to the Xbox Series X/S game client, and other payment methods, including credit and debit cards, would be available on the desktop and mobile browser versions of the same storefronts.

Althoughthe previous 6.57 content updatelaid the groundwork for the Xbox version,Final Fantasy 14Patch 6.58made more changes to the game. The Abyssal Fracture (Extreme) trial received some adjustments, as the drop rate of the Lynx of Abyssal Grief Flute was increased further. The flute can also be obtained from a vendor in Radz-at-Han for 99 Voidvessel Totems. In addition, the weekly limit on Thaleia Coins, Thaleia treasure coffers, and Unsung Blades of Anabaseios has been removed, making gearing up much quicker. As for PVP Job adjustments, the Paladin’s defensive power was tuned down while its offensive firepower received a slight buff. Plus, the Dancer’s Honing ovation had its power from Acclaim stacks decreased by 50%.
Though it was not mentioned in the patch notes,Final Fantasy 14Patch 6.58 will also remove supportfor 32-bit operating systems and the DirectX9 client. Though the game could be played without guaranteed support for these deprecated platforms,Final Fantasy 14will require a 64-bit OS compatible with DirectX11. Patch 6.58 also resolved issues with the Crystalline Conflict game mode and The Burden of the Son (Savage) raid. However, a tooltip description issue with the Paladin’s Holy Sheltron PVP ability remained outstanding, though the ability will function as intended.
Between the release of Patch 6.58 andthe upcomingDawntrailpanel at PAX East,Final Fantasy 14’s development team has a busy week ahead. It remains to be seen if any further adjustments will be needed beforeDawntrail.
