Ezra Miller’s long-awaitedThe Flashmovie has set its first screening date in the lead-up to its announced June premiere. The early screening announcement comes amidst a franchise-wide upheaval and a wave of controversy that has followed the film closely for months.
The Flashis the first standalone DCEU project focused on the titular character from DC Comics and the 13th installment in the company’s overarching extended cinematic universe. The upcoming project is strongly believed to be loosely based on the iconic and far-reachingFlashpointstoryline, wherein the Flash alters reality while trying to go back in time to save his mother. Many fans have already begun speculating ifThe Flashwill change the DCEUas much as the comic arc changed that medium.

While there are no guarantees thatThe Flashwill create anything as monumental as the New 52, the wait has slowly started to end. According to an insider leak reported byThe Wrap, the film’s post-production is well enough along its way that it will be shown in its entirety at the upcoming CinemaCon event on April 25th, two whole months before its official theatrical release date. This is impressive, as the film has faced delays and edits, with leading star Millerbeing called in to shoot moreThe Flashfootageas late as October of 2022.
The Flashbeing released in theaters was questioned after a string of uncouth incidents involving Miller. These events led to the star admitting they suffered from complex mental health issues, which they started treating shortly after. This resolution and the promise of such great moments as the return ofMichael Keaton’s Batman and Supergirlon the big screen were sufficient to turn down the fan heat aimed at the project, which reached a boiling point in 2022 amidst the allegations.
Despite the web of controversy and general topsy-turvy environment surrounding the DCEU, the film is still hot in terms of fan interest, as evidenced byThe Flashthe trailer beating outGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3for most watched at the Super Bowl. The film is the most likely narrative device to usher in James Gunn’s new vision for the DCEU without stonewalling the older films and fanbase. Whether or not the film going forward means that the execs at WB have given Miller a clean slate is another question entirely. However, many behind the scenes have expressed optimism about their recovery and future comportment.
While the film seems worth the trouble, that does not assure fans that Miller will be a part of the DCEU afterward. WhileMiller’s future withThe Flashfranchisehas been addressed in some form by DC Studios' Co-CEOs, the general uncertainty surrounding the entire company making any decision seems far more likely to be based on the film’s reception and performance than a promise of good behavior.
The Flashwill premiere in theaters for the general public on June 27, 2025.
