All Confirmed Changes For Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s Zombies
The Zombies ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3is already going to be quite different from the earlier iterations of the mode, with it being confirmed to take inspiration from theOutbreak Zombies of 2020’sBlack Ops Cold War. Outbreak Zombies does away with the traditional round-based survival of the mode, instead taking place in more open maps with players having to complete objectives to unlock new areas.
Right off the bat, it has been confirmed thatMW3’s Zombies will feature the largest map the mode has ever seen, with many believing it will be a twisted take on the currentWarzonemap Al Mazrah. To match this large-scale setting, it has been confirmed thatMW3Zombies will boast much higher player-counts than the traditional four-player experiences the franchise usually employs.
Reportedly,Modern Warfare 3’s Zombies will feature up to 24 players in a single match, with this perhaps being the biggest change from the standard formula that the game will bring. Of course, this increased player count will have huge implications on howMW3Zombies plays compared to past games, with different squads of players having to work together across the map to survive the undead onslaught.
The mode has been described as a “PvE extraction survival experience,” meaning it will likelyborrow elements fromWarzone’s popular DMZ mode. This means players can potentially choose to extract from the map with any acquired items at their own pace, offering a great risk versus reward to staying in-game for longer periods of time. The scale of the mode will also give way to a variety of unique challenges, with Easter eggs involving 24 players already being a fascinating prospect for many fans.
Like the Outbreak Zombies of past games, it has been confirmed thatMW3’s mode will see the return of many boss-type enemies such as the Mimic. Because of this, there are hopes that the mode will feature large-scale bosses that will be defining for the franchise, with the Orda boss potentially returning. The Orda is a huge hulking creature, and the scope ofMW3Zombies could easily see 24 players having to team up to defeat an expanded version of the boss or potentially multiple of them. However, this is just speculation, as only mini bosses like the Mimic are currently confirmed.
Interestingly, it is also confirmed that the members of Task Force 141 will be playable characters inMW3Zombies, being the first example ofModern Warfarecampaign characters appearing in Zombies. While more details ofMW3Zombies are expected to come in the following weeks, the mode is already gearing up to be an interesting experience for players.
