One feature ofOctopath Travelerthat sets it apart from other similar games is its intuitive and deep Job system. Each character starts with a default class, called a Job inOctopath Traveler, but eventually characters are able to pick up additional Jobs to create hybrid classes. While jobs are generally pretty balanced, there are some that are clearly better than others.

1212. Apothecary

Alfyn Greengrass is the default Apothecary character inOctopath Traveler, with the unique ability to Concoct. This lets Alfyn mix ingredients to create a party effect, including healing, reviving, and buffing allies.

By himself, Alfyn isvery versatile and can multiclasseffectively into lots of options. Apothecary, however, is not a great secondary job.

1111. Scholar

The default Scholar character inOctopath Traveleris Cyrus Albright, with multiple abilities that damage enemies all at once. The Scholar is a master of the elements, able to use fire, ice, lightning, and other elements when multiclassing.

The Scholar is, however, almost totally outclassedby another caster available in the game, the Sorcerer.

The Warrior job is a basic one and well-rounded enough to work with just about any other secondary class.

99. Starseer

The Starseer isa secret job inOctopath Traveleronly unlockable by traveling to the Western Wispermill Flats and defeating the Job Shrine’s guardian Steorra, Starseer. The Starseer job is mainly a support role that uses Divination-themed abilities to boost allies' abilities and defenses.

It’s a pretty useful job to have represented in the party, but it’s a little bit underwhelming in terms of power level.

88. Cleric

The default Cleric character inOctopath Traveleris Ophilia Clement, and the job is mainly focused on healing allies. That’s not to say the class is without combat potential, but it’s much more limited compared to other jobs.

The Cleric is a very good standard addition to any team composition, with thealmost single-handed abilityto keep the party alive.

77. Dancer

The Dancer job inOctopath Traveleris one taken by Primrose Azelhart, with the ability to provide stat boosts to allies as well as Allure NPCs in the world. This passive ability comes later on in the game, but it opens up secret areas and new locations not usually visitable.

The Dancer is a very powerful support-focused class, with the only downside being that most of her abilities can only target a single ally.

66. Thief

The default Thief character inOctopath Traveleris Therion, with the ability to Steal as well as equip two weapons. The Steal ability gives Therion a random item from an NPC, but with a chance to fail thatcan damage your reputation.

It’s a very powerful class, especially with the secondary Dancer or Hunter job, and one that will come in handy to finish off enemies quickly.

55. Runelord

The Runelord is one of the secret unlockable jobs inOctopath Traveler. To unlock this job, one must travel to the Shrine of the Runeblade near Everhold and defeat its guardian Balogar, the Runeblade.

The Runelord’s main strength comes from the ability to place Runes on an ally’s weapons andimprove the power of the partyall at once. It’s one of the better combat-focused support classes, and works well as a secondary class for just about any job.

It’s a job that utilizes both AoE and single-target attacks to whittle down enemies' health quickly. H’aanit serves best when given the Warmaster secondary skill, as it massively increases the Hunter’s attack.

33.Warmaster

The Warmaster is a secret job inOctopath Travelerunlockable by traveling to theShrine of the Warbringer near Riverfordand defeat its guardian Winnehild, Warbringer. The Warmaster can wieldallweapons, and its moveset is basedentirelyaround dealing massive damage with those weapons.

It’s possibly the most useful secondary job for every physical attack dealer in the game, as it gives a huge 12% boost to the character’s physical damage.
