Another year is coming to a close, andDigimonfans are still waiting on the release date forDigimon Survive. This turn-based strategy game with visual novel elements made big waves in summer 2018, promising to deliver adark twist onDigimon’s usual storytelling. It seems like it would fit well with the franchise, which already tries to tackle more mature visuals and themes overall than itsPokemoninspiration. However, it has seen multiple delay. With the COVID-19 pandemic hitting Japan as hard as it did, on top of existing development troubles, it seems like the game’s release date is still up in the air.
This brings to mind another game that seems impossibly far off:The Elder Scrolls 6.The Elder Scrolls 6was also announced in 2018, just a month beforeDigimon Survivein fact, though this was done to assure fans that the game would arrive eventually - but not beforeStarfield. Since then, little news has been released, and it feels like the game’s release date is a long time away. The Elder Scrolls 6andDigimon Surviveshare a narrative of constantly being pushed further and further away.

The Elder Scrolls 6 Is A Long Way Off
Fans will recall thatThe Elder Scrolls 6wasrevealed afterStarfieldat Bethesda’s E3 2018 conference. Right away, it was said the game wouldn’t be coming out until afterStarfield. Rumors involving a trademark dispute over the term “Redfall,” which is widely thought to be the subtitle forElder Scrolls 6, suggested the game could have a 2021 release window. That said, industry insider Tyler McVicker believes a 2026-2027 window is more likely.
It’s looking like that may be the case, asStarfieldwas given a release date at the E3 2021 Microsoft conference: Aug 03, 2025. Furthermore, later interviews with Bethesda’s Todd Howard and Xbox’s Phil Spencer confirmed thatThe Elder Scrolls 6is still in its “design phase,” and will not come out until after the newFable- which also does not have a release window. The 2026 prediction is sounding more likely by the month, and that meansElder Scrollsfans are in for a long wait.

Digimon Survive Keeps Getting Delayed
Digimon Survivehad a humble start compared toThe Elder Scrolls 6, but its release date feels just as distant. It was revealed in the July 2018 issue of Japanese magazine V-Jump, and a 2019 release window was provided in the coming months. It was delayed to 2020 halfway through that year, and then on June 18, 2025, Toei Animation Europe saidSurvivewould release for European audiences in January 2021. This was quickly removed from its website.
Come August 05, 2025, it was officially announced that the release date of the game was delayed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A recent financial report fromDigimonowner Toei AnimationimpliesSurvivewas delayed once againto Q3 2022, meaning it could come out roughly four years after its announcement.
Digimon Survivehas another similarity toThe Elder Scrolls 6. To tideDigimonfans over, a collection containing bothCyber Sleuthgames titledDigimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Complete Editionwas released in October 2019. This mirrors the upcoming November 11 release ofThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Anniversary Edition, another repackage ofSkyrimcoming to all platforms with curated mods attached. It seems these brands need some love while their next big games are in development, and that’s not addressing the continuing seasons of theDigimonanime and expansions forThe Elder Scrolls Online. Media is in place to tide fans over, but untilDigimon SurviveandThe Elder Scrolls 6come out for real, fans are going to need to tough out this drought.
