Summary

Diablo 4’s Season of the Malignant is finally here, and it brings with it a host of new changes to liven up Sanctuary. Players can embark on a brand-new questline after the events of the main campaign, they must overcome new types of monsters and challenges, and they can now complete all sorts of objectives to earn new rewards in a new battle pass. While not every change has been received well,Diablo 4’s first season should help give players a reason to jump back in.

Rather, it feels like Blizzard missed a major opportunity with this first season.Diablo 4may have only been out for a month, but the Season of the Malignant seems like the perfect time to introduce a new class. It would have shaken up the game considerably, giving players even more incentive to create a new character, and could have breathed new life into Sanctuary. IfDiablo Immortalcan get a brand-new class, then there is no reason thatDiablo 4’s seasonal structure cannot include some as well.

Diablo 4 Could Benefit From a New Class

Diablo 4has been out for over a month, and many dedicated fans have already played through everything the game has to offer. Some players have either maxed out or are in the process of maxing outDiablo 4’s five classesand have created some of the best builds possible. Other players have at least checked out most of the classes, and some have already been burnt out by the content. While the new mechanics may help refresh the game, some players are yearning for something new.

Diablo 4launched with five varied classes that each fill a specific niche, but some players were hoping for more.Diablo Immortallaunched with six classes, anda couple of fan-favoriteDiabloclassesare missing from the baseDiablo 4. Blizzard will likely be adding more via post-launch DLC, but it could have used the seasonal structure to introduce them instead. While season one may have been too soon, it may have been exactly what some players need right now.

Diablo 4’sSeason of the Malignantstill has issues fans would like to see addressed, but it may have been received a lot better regardless if it had introduced a brand-new class to the mix. A new class would not only shake up the meta but would also give burnt-out fans something new to play. It could have been based on a pre-existingDiabloclass or could have been something entirely brand-new based around the new Malignant corruption feature. It could have breathed new life into Sanctuary, given players new powers to grapple with, and set the standard for future seasons to follow.

This first season needed to make a massive impact, and it did do that, but for all the wrong reasons. A lot of the changes are very controversial, andplayers have taken to Metacriticto voice their grievances. Blizzard hosted a Campfire Chat to alleviate these concerns, but the damage may have already been done. While it would likely not have fixed everything, introducing a new class to the mix could have gone a long way in lessening that controversy. It would have made the first season larger, given it a popularity boost, and maybe even helped distract from the less popular changes.

Diablo Immortalrecently got a brand-new classandDiablo 4should follow in that path soon. The game has been a fantastic ride so far, but the Season of the Malignant could have made it even better. Hopefully, future seasons include new classes or larger additions to the game. More content is usually always a great thing, particularly in a massive ARPG, and brand-new classes are one of the best ways to breathe new life into them.

Diablo 4is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
