Summary
Destiny 2Season 23 will be called the Season of the Wish, Bungie has confirmed. The developer’s announcement was preceded by an unconventional teaser incorporated into thelatestDestiny 2weekly reset update.
Warning! Spoilers for the end of Destiny 2: Season of the Witch ahead. While Bungie’s live-service shooter has been polarizing the fandom as of late, one of its aspects that is still consistently receiving praise from the players aretheDestiny 2puzzlesthat continue to be added to the game on a regular basis. This week’s update introduced yet another such series of challenges that conclude the large-scale Imbaru Engine puzzle, which was introduced to Savathun’s Throne World during the ongoing Season of the Witch.

Completing the puzzle rewards players with a new cutscene that reveals the wings ofDestiny 2villain Savathuncontain the 15th wish that completes the Wall of Wishes, a Dreaming City device that was originally added to the game as part ofDestiny 2: Forsaken, its third-ever expansion released in September 2018. The apparatus was encountered over the course ofForsaken’s Keep of Voices raid, allowing players to make wishes that would help them during the event. In total, Keep of Voices featured 15 wishes, but the final one never produced any visible effect, leaving players to wonder what its “this one you shall cherish” message could be referring to.
The Imbaru Engine puzzle reward cutscene thus reignited the theories that the 15th wish is coming back into play, which Bungie confirmed within hours of rolling out the game’s latest update. Taking to X, formerly Twitter, the developer congratulated the players who already managed to solve the convoluted rune puzzle. The message also saw the studio reveal thatDestiny 2Season 23 will be called the Season of the Wish. The promotional artwork accompanying that announcement depicts three Guardians exiting a portal together with Riven, the raid boss from The Last Wish.
While some of the more elaboratefan theories about the 15th wish inDestiny 2are still unlikely to be proven correct, this turn of events does confirm that Bungie intends to revisitForsaken’s storyline in the immediate future. For now, some players have taken to social media to theorize how the 15th wish turned Riven into an ally, pointing to the newly shared promotional artwork as proof of that claim.
As is tradition withDestiny 2seasons, the Season of the Wish is planned as a quarter-long affair. Specifically, the season will run from November 28 through February 27, as previously confirmed by Bungie.
