Summary
Bungie reveals the new Subjugator enemy type during theDestiny 2Final Shape showcase, bringing about a deadly new enemy that can control the battlefield with darkness abilities. After plenty of teases, Bungie finally pulled the curtain back on The Final Shape expansion and what players will be doing once they enter the Traveler. As many assumed, Bungie confirmed that the launch date forThe Final Shape will be February 27, continuing the pattern from the past few expansions like The Witch Queen and Lightfall.
The Light and Darkness Saga has been ongoing for nearly 10 years at this point andBungie is finally planning to bring that tale to an end with Final Shape, though this expansion appears to be fair ambitious with the amount of content it is bringing to the table. The Pale Heart is a new location inside the Traveler, made up of the past experiences that players have been through such as the original Tower, though The Witnesses influence continue to seep in as well. In addition to new locations, The Final Shape also has new enemies to fight as well.

During theDestiny 2Final Shape Showcase, Bungie also revealed a new enemy type players will have to deal with called Subjugators. With the Witness attempting to maintain control, it’ll be throwing these enemies at players who can wield Stasis and Strand, as indicated by the color of their armor. Bungie notes that Subjugators are more of a support style unit, so expect to see them at the back line of enemy forces, while using stasis crystals and strange tangles to make the player’s life even harder, but potentially even slowing them down for the enemy forces to overwhelm.
Subjugators may not be the entirely new race that players have anticipated, but with their access to darkness abilities and how they can control the battlefield, they look like a new way to mix up how combat encounters will work. It’s unknown if these will work similarly to Tormentors, who were mainly positioned asboss style encounters during the Lightfall campaign. It’s possible that these could be elite style units that appear randomly to mix things up.
For a while, fans were under the assumption thatBungie would eventually add a completely new race toDestiny 2to sit alongside Fallen, Hive, Vex, Taken, and Scorn. Commonly refered to as “The Veil” rumors indicated that this faction would take inspiration from the statue that players found under the Moon inside the Pyramid, with a wispy and ethereal style look. However, as fans have come to learn through recent seasons, “The Veil” isn’t actually a codename for a secret darkness race, but a paracausal entity found deep below the surface of Neomuna, serving as their power source for the CloudArk.
