Destiny 2 Glitch Hints at Trials of Osiris Return

For the last few weeks, theDestiny 2community has been running rampant with speculation that Trials of Osiris (or its D2 variant,Trials of the Nine) would return at some point during Year 3. That speculation only grew with more clues, but now it seems a glitch in theDestiny 2menu has all but confirmed that Trials of Osiris is returning.

It’s only brief, but a glitch in the Orbit screen forDestiny 2shows a placeholder that looks a lot like the scorecard for Trials of Osiris. The menu says “Placeholder Text” across the top, includes theDestinysymbol and the word Beta, and then has a section called Game History with 7 boxes above 3 boxes.

Trials of Osiris fans will recognize the 7-over-3 setup as similar the original scorecard for the PvP mode. In Destiny 1, Trials of Osiris players entered the mode in the hopes of securing 9 wins before accruing 3 losses. Those that hit 9 wins without ever losing a game would reachThe Lighthouse and special loot. However, the real path to the Lighthouse only took 7 wins since two of the Trials Boons would unlock a free win right off the bat and a double count for the first win.

Trials of the Nine wasDestiny 2’s version of the multiplayer mode but with some slight variations. The mode switched from Elimination to a rotation of Survival and Countdown and only required 7 true wins to reach the Third Spire and unique loot. Winning 3, 5, and 7 total games also unlocked rewards, but the setup was much different.

While this could be explained as a glitch related to Trials of the Nine it seems more likely that this is the first hint thatTrials is returning forDestiny 2. Bungie put the mode on hiatus in Year 1 and has yet to say anything about it coming back since then. And with PvP seeming to be a low priority for Bungie, many feared it might not ever return.

Then Bungie brought back the Elimination game mode toDestiny 2and the hints began to build. Season of Dawn put Osiris into the game as a vendor and quest giver and it became even harder to deny that Trials could be on the table. Finally, Bungie invited several top Trials of Osiris streamers from the D1 days, including Dr. Lupo andRealKraftyy, and the signs seemed impossible to overlook.

Now, this glitch merely confirms what most already assumed: Trials of Osiris is returning toDestiny 2and Bungie is working on its framework behind the scenes.
