There seems to be plenty brewing over at Kojima Productions. After a series of cryptic hints, the studio finally revealed thatDeath Stranding 2is in development. Much like its predecessor, it promises to be a very eccentric title that will have gamers attempting to decode it for years to come. Despite the excitement surroundingDeath Stranding 2, fans shouldn’t forget that Hideo Kojima has mentioned that the studio is busy with another equally interesting project.

As Kojima revealed, the project is a collaboration with Xbox, and it will see his studio make use of Microsoft’s cloud technology. The game has yet to receive a title, though some sources claim to know quite a bit about it already. Whatever Kojima is busy with, it seems to be very experimental, and as interesting asDeath Stranding 2is, it shouldn’t overshadow Kojima’s business with Xbox.

Kojima Productions' Xbox Game

Last year, Kojima revealed that his studio and Xbox are collaborating on a new game. This grabbed the interest of the gaming world because Kojima also claimed that the game will utilize Microsoft’s powerful cloud technology. It has been integrated into gaming with titles such asFlight Simulator, though it is hard to imagine what Kojima might have in mind. According to video gaming journalist Tom Henderson, the upcoming game is titled ‘Project Overdose’, and it is a horror game featuringMargaret Qualley, who plays Mama inDeath Stranding.

Kojima has neither confirmed nor denied these rumors, though he has spoken about the project in passing since then. In an interview with IGN, he revealed that theKojima Productions Xbox cloud gameis one he has been thinking of for at least six or seven years. He had pitched it to other companies, and they thought he was mad because it required non-existent infrastructure. However, Microsoft showed him that it understood his vision, which is ultimately why he partnered with it. In an interview with The Guardian, he claimed that the game is almost like a new medium, and if it succeeds it will impact gaming and the movie industry. These are lofty promises, but Kojima has the track record to back up his confidence.

Death Stranding 2 Should Not Overshadow the Xbox Game

Despite its eccentricity,Death Strandingfound an audience that appreciated it. This has spawned a sequel that looks like it will be bigger and better than the last adventure. It will be a star-studded affair, and performers revealed include Elle Fanning andDeadpool 2’s Shioli Kutsuna. The announcement trailer lets gamers know that Sam, Fragile, and Lou will be making a return, though it is not yet known what dangers await them. In addition to the ambitious sequel,Death Strandingfans can also look forward to theDeath Strandingmoviewhich is in the works.

Although all the activity in theDeath Strandinguniverse is certainly exciting, it shouldn’t get in the way of Kojima’s Xbox project, which is just as intriguing. Its experimental nature could easily result in it being ignored in favor of more established franchises such asDeath Stranding, which has sold over 10 million copies. It would be a pity if this happened, as Kojima has demonstrated several times over that he is capable of introducing revolutionary gaming concepts.

Whether gamers are anticipatingDeath Stranding 2or the mysteriousProject Overdose, it appears that the wait for the games will be a long one. Leaks suggest thatDeath Stranding 2will only hit stores in 2024, and with the Xbox project still untitled, it seems certain that it is still years away. Some time between the two games may be for the best, as it will allow them to both adequately bathe in the spotlight.
