Cyberpunk 2077was first announced 8 long years ago, and that sort of development time has been a death kneel for many games. That cannot be said about CD Projekt Red’s latest, though. The developer has a reputation for taking its time and shipping high-quality games likeThe Witcher 3, so the time frame here does quite the opposite and builds anticipation.
Cyberpunk 2077is easily one of the more hotly anticipated games of the year, but there’s another aspect of the industry many fans are looking forward to this year: next-gen consoles. At this point, many expect to see or even play CD Projekt Red’s latest on next-gen consoles, but CD Projekt Red has neglected to mention if the game would be specifically playable on PS5. This has a lot of fans wondering about the future of the game, but with a little bit of context, the coyness is understandable.

Cyberpunk 2077’s Xbox Series X Confirmation
Right now, the confirmed platforms forCyberpunk 2077are PC, PS4, Xbox One, Stadia, and Xbox Series X, but that requires a bit more context than most release platforms. For example, the Stadia version isn’t coming until sometime after the current-gen launch, and the Xbox Series X version was confirmed with a certain caveat in mind: Smart Delivery. CD Projekt Red confirmed owners of the Xbox One version could upgrade to theXbox Series X version"when available," so it’s not exactly confirmationCyberpunk 2077will launch alongside the next-gen console. Just somewhere down the line, there will be an Xbox Series X version and it will be free. So fans who would prefer to play it there don’t have to wait about playing it at all.
Cyberpunk 2077 and the PS5
What this makes clear aboutCyberpunk 2077is its variety of priorities. September 17’s PC, PS4, and Xbox One versions are clearly the priority withCyberpunk 2077in the final stages of development. Stadia will come some time after that, as will the next-gen versions of the game. So while it isn’t on the list of confirmed games for PS5 yet, there’s almost no way it isn’t. The Xbox Series X version is almost as quiet, having only the confirmation exist due to the implications of Smart Delivery.
Another example ofCyberpunk 2077’s priorities is the multiplayer componentstill set to come out some time after launch. In other words, players should expect a continuance of content and platforms after release, and while a roadmap would be nice, the current world situation makes that understandable even more difficult.Cyberpunk 2077’s Night wire eventis coming up, so fans can expect to learn something there. It may not be about the PS5 version, but rest assured, there’s little-to-no chance it isn’t available on both next-gen platforms when that time comes.

Cyberpunk 2077will launch on September 17 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with Stadia and Xbox Series X versions coming later in 2020.
