CD Projektis home to two of the most recognizable games of the past few years,TheWitcher 3andCyberpunk 2077. The popularity of these titles has helped the company build its presence in the gaming industry. Now, as the company looks to expand its growing reputation, CD Projekt is reportedly considering menstrual leave for employees across all ofCD Projekt and its subsidiaries.

Although started in 1994, CD Projekt was a relatively unknown name in the gaming industry until its hitTheWitcherseries. Its last iteration,TheWitcher 3was so successful that in 2020, the company’s development studioCD Projekt Red became the most valuable game company in Europe. Now, as more attention draws toward upcomingCyberpunk 2077expansions andTheWitcher 4, the spotlight falls on how the company is building its workplace culture as much as its development capabilities. The idea of potentially introducing a menstrual leave policy indicates that CD Projekt may be looking to introduce more progressive policies for the company in the coming future.

The comments come shortly after thedigital distribution platform GOG, a CD Projekt subsidiary, announced that it had implemented a menstrual leave policy for its employees. Accordingly, GOG employees can take time off work as needed to recover from period pain. These menstrual leave days are fully paid, and GOG believes that the policy will result in an additional day off per quarter for affected employees.

Following this announcement,CD Projektis also looking into the possibility of implementing a similar policy. According to CD Projekt PR Director Radek Grabowski, the company is “looking into it further for the whole CD Projekt.” While it’s unclear if this will happen for certain, implementing such a policy would mark a notably progressive move, not just in the gaming industry but in the corporate world in general. As of now, menstrual leave is hardly common across many industries. In fact, the topic of menstrual leave is often a hot debate.

Nevertheless, issues around diversity and inclusivity have garnered a lot of attention as of late, particularly amidst the many sexual harassment and discrimination allegations levied against a number of game companies. For instance,Activision Blizzard recently hired a diversity chiefas part of its efforts in making positive workplace culture changes. CD Projekt itself has been in hot water followingCyberpunk 2077and crunch allegations. Recently, the game director behindTheWitcher 4promised fans that the project will not have crunch. Now, with a possible menstrual leave policy for employees on the cards, CD Projekt may have taken one more step in building a more inclusive workplace culture. Though only time will tell how all of this actually plays out for CD Projekt.
