The New Dynamics of Call of Duty: Warzone 2

Many fans have noted different pacing and overall dynamics inWarzone 2compared to itspopular predecessorWarzonefrom 2020. Perhaps as a result of the more grounded realism thatWarzone 2’sgame engine centers, many have characterized the title as slower paced, more tactical, and much more methodical. This is inherently controversial, with fans being somewhat split between the high-octane gameplay of the firstWarzoneand the more strategic elements ofWarzone 2. To make up for this rift, there are a variety of new elements that work with this slower pacing.

For example, proximity chat is now available inWarzone 2, with players now being able to openly talk and listen to enemy players when getting close. While this has predictably already led to some goofy moments in standard gameplay, other mechanics surrounding proximity chat serve to heighten this experience further. One of these new mechanics is interrogations.

Faction missions and high-risk, high-reward is the focus inside Call of Duty: Warzone 2’s DMZ mode.

What Interrogations Add in Call of Duty: Warzone 2

Interrogations inWarzone 2can only be carried out during team-based playlists, adding to the higher level of chaos that these particular modes often foster. InWarzone 2, players can interrogate enemies by approaching a downed, hostile player and holding the relevant button prompt, leading to an animation in which the incapacitated enemy is threatened until they reveal new information.

A successful interrogation will temporarily reveal the locations of that downed enemy’s surviving teammates, pinging them on the interrogator’s mini-map. Given how close-quarters and tense thatteam fights can be inWarzone 2, this information might become absolutely invaluable in the heat of the moment, making interrogations a very commendable new mechanic. These interactions are only made more comical with the presence of proximity chat, with downed players pleading not to be interrogated as the attacking players can potentially roleplay a real interrogation.

Many have noticed this mechanic is likely inspired byFortnite, which introduced an essentially identical mechanic long before the launch ofWarzone 2. It appears thatWarzone 2has been greatly inspired byFortnitein many aspects, with the intense success of the latter understandably capturing a lot of attention throughout the industry. With the slower pace ofWarzone 2, being able to gain fairly instant locational knowledge of a hostile’s teammates is a massive tactical bonus, adding to the layered strategy of the title.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
