Call of Duty: Warzonehas plenty of weapons for players to choose from, making it hard to give each gun proper attention. This leads to some great weapons slipping through the cracks and not making it into the meta, andCall of Duty: Warzoneexpert NICKMERCS believes he has found one such weapon.
WhileNICKMERCS has been playingFortniterecently, the popular streamer and pro gamer recently made a return toCall of Duty: Warzone. Upon his comeback, the incredibly skilled player began using less popular weapons to find a dark horse candidate for the important role of “best SMG” inCall of Duty: Warzone. Before long, NICKMERCS had decided on one of his new favorite submachine guns, though the gun actually comes from the Assault Rifle category.

Call of Duty’s gunsmith featureallows for deep customization of weaponry, and NICKMERCS used the mechanic to transform the AS Val into an SMG. Using the VLK 200mm Osa barrel to extend the weapons range, as well as 30 round mags for a larger clip size, the FaZe clan member continues to customize the gun. Two grips are added to increase the AS Val’s accuracy, with the Sleight of Hand perk added to greatly boost the reload speed of the gun.
For players who may be wondering why the pro does not equip a silencer for the weapon, the AS Val comes with a built-in suppressor — freeing up an attachment slot so that players can use a perk with the gun. NICKMERCS praises the gun heavily in his video detailing the loadout, claiming that the weapon isbetter than the popular MP5 SMG“in every way possible.” With the pro player firmly believing that the AS Val is better than the former holder of the “best SMG” title,Call of Duty: Warzoneplayers should consider giving the underrated gun a chance.
For anyone who thinks that the AS Val name sounds familiar, it is likely because of the weapon’s broken status inCall of Duty: Modern Warfarea few months back. Beforethe AS Val was nerfed, the weapon was able to shoot through all walls and surfaces — seeing no damage reduction whatsoever. Though the weapon is far from being as overpowered as it was when it was first added to the game, it should still prove very deadly inCall of Duty: Warzonematches with the right attachments.
While the AS Val is an incredibly strong weapon right now, it may not stay that way for much longer. WithCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’sintegration withCall of Duty: Warzonekicking off in just a few days, plenty of new weapons are about to enter the fray, completely shaking up the game’s meta.
Call of Duty: Warzoneis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
