BloodRayne, a game that sees players take on the role of half-vampire Rayne as she battles against vampires, zombies, and everything else you’d expect from a grimdark universe, initially released in 2002. The game was received well by fans and critics, even being seen by some asone of the best vampire games. Though, even with a successful sequel released in 2004, and a movie adaptation in 2005,BloodRaynewas effectively left dead in the water in the beginning of the 2010s.

A new publisher in the form of Ziggurat Interactive sought to change that though, and attempt to revive theBloodRaynefranchise somewhat. Working alongside original developer Terminal Reality, Ziggurat announced in 2020 thatBloodRaynewould be receiving improvements through the enhanced editions of the game, orTerminal CutsofBloodRayne 1 & 2,and these editions were free for anyone who owned the original versions of the game.

In 2021, in light of the positive reception for the enhanced editions, it was announced thatBloodRayne: ReVampedwould be coming to Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch. TheReVampedversions of the game were marketed more as remasters than enhanced editions, and would be available alongside somebig changes to the originalBloodRaynetitles. Now though,BloodRayne: ReVampedis apparently coming to PS5 after the remasters initially dropped in November 2021. As with the other versions ofBloodRayne, the PS5 edition received a rating of M for Mature, with ESRB detailing the violence and blood that one would expect from a vampire game.

Apart fromBloodRayne 1and2, there was a spin-off game titledBloodRayne: Betrayal, though this game has yet to be remastered. Released in 2011, this was the latest release of a newBloodRaynegame, despite the game being over ten years old. The developer ofBloodRayne: Betrayal, WayForward, has expressed interest in creating anew game for theBloodRaynefranchise though, and with even next-gen consoles experiencing theReVampededitions now, it may be a great time for a fully next-genBloodRayneexperience to drop.
