The Prelude to War
It began with a mysterious series of events that seemed isolated at first. The Shinigami Research and Development Institute (SRDI) detected massivenumbers of Hollows beingeradicated without a trace in Hueco Mundo. Meanwhile, the new Shinigami guardians assigned to Karakura Town—Ryūnosuke Yuki and Shino—were gravely wounded in an attack by abnormal Hollows. This drew the attention of Ichigo Kurosaki and his friends, who saved the guardians.
Shortly after, a strange man named Asguiaro Ebern appeared in Ichigo’s bedroom, identifying himself as a messenger. When Ichigo confronted him, Ebern summoned a Quincy crossbow, revealing himself as one of the Quincies. Their fight was cut short by Ebern’s retreat. Around the same time in Soul Society, commander-general Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto was confronted inside the 1st Division barracks by masked intruders declaring war.
The Rise of the Wandenreich
It became clear that these events were part of a larger plan by the Wandenreich, an army of Quincies led by the Emperor Yhwach. They had already conquered Hueco Mundo, imprisoning Tier Harribel and dominating the Hollow Lands.
The Wandenreich then launched their firstinvasion of the Seireitei. Though the Gotei 13 fought bravely, Yhwach declared war while accompanied by the powerful Sternritter. During the battle, Captain-Commander Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto faced Yhwach himself. Even with his immense fire abilities, Yamamoto was defeated by Yhwach, dealing a tragic loss to the Shinigami forces. The Wandenreich retreated temporarily, but it was clear the Quincy Blood War had only just started.
Royal Guard Training and Preparations
After the initial Wandenreich invasion, Soul Society was left reeling from major losses. Captain Shunsui Kyōraku succeeded Captain-Commander Yamamoto and focused efforts on rebuilding their forces. Meanwhile, Ichigo Kurosaki, Rukia Kuchiki, and Renji Abarai weresummoned by the Royal Guardto the Soul King Palace for special training.
Under Ōetsu Nimaiya’s guidance, they pushed past their limits to fully comprehend their Zanpakutō’s true potential. Back in the Seireitei, captains and lieutenants trained relentlessly to strengthen their kido, hakuda, and other skills. They studied past combats to develop new tactics against the Sternritter. The Visored also aided the Kidō Corps in mastering their hollow powers. Through shared efforts across realms, the Gotei 13 prepared to face the Wandenreich’s next invasion with greater coordination and strength.
The Second Invasion and Fall of the Soul King
With the Wandenreich army replenished, Yhwach launched a second, larger-scale invasion of Soul Society. However,the Gotei 13 forces weremuch better prepared under Captain-Commander Shunsui Kyōraku and put up an impressive defense despite the Seireitei itself being replaced by the enemies' city.
During the ensuing battles, crucial revelations were made. It was discovered that Uryū Ishida was being groomed as Yhwach’s successor, much to the Sternritter’s chagrin. More importantly,Yhwach enacted his trueobjective: traveling to the Soul King Palace to absorb the enigmatic Soul King’s powers for himself.
This act allowed Yhwach to complete control over the entireBleachmultiverse. It forced Ichigo and company to journey to the drastically altered Royal Realm of the Soul King to face Yhwach and his elite Schutzstaffel guard at the height of their strength.
Final Confrontations and the War’s End
Upon arriving in the newly reshaped Soul King Palace, now known as Wahrwelt, created by Yhwach after absorbing the Soul King, the Gotei 13 and their allies engaged in climactic battles against the elite Sternritter known as the Schutzstaffel.Kenpachi Zaraki fought GerardValkyrie multiple times, eventually defeating him with help from Toshiro Hitsugaya and Byakuya Kuchiki after Gerard activated his Vollständig and cut off Kenpachi’s arm.
Shunsui Kyoraku also battledLille Barro on several occasions but could only defeat him with assistance from his lieutenant Nanao Ise, who unlocked her zanpakuto’s Shikai to defeat Lille’s advanced form. Pernida Parnkgjas was revealed to be the left hand of the Soul King and fought Mayuri Kurotsuchi and Nemu Kurotsuchi, with Nemu sacrificing herself to finally destroy Pernida.
It ultimately came down to two climactic battles between Ichigo Kurosaki and Yhwach. In their second fight, Uryu Ishida helped weaken Yhwach temporarily using the power of the Still Silver Arrowheads. This allowed Ichigo to deliver the final blow and defeat Yhwach once and for all, achieving new heights of power with assistance from his Fullbringer and Quincy abilities.
