After many delays, the production ofBlack Panther: Wakanda Foreverfinished shooting during the spring. While the film has had a lot of the information under wraps, the sequels crew might’ve just teased a major change to Namor in the upcoming film.
Black Panther: Wakanda Foreveris set to reveal who will carry the torch now that King T’Challa has been laid to rest following the passing of actor Chadwick Boseman, who portrayed the character in the first film. In addition to who will carry Wakanda, the film is also set to be the Marvel Cinematic Universe’sdebut of the character Namor the Submariner, who is rumored to be portrayed by actor Tenoch Huerta.

TheBlack Panther 2crew recently revealed some wrap gifts they received that hint at the changes that may come toNamor’s origin in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The images depict a hat and sweatshirt, and on the hat is a colorful image of what seems to be Tepeyollotl, an Aztec jaguar god. This graphic further instills the rumor that’s been circulating that Namor will have a Central American origin. This speculation began when the decision to cast Huerta was made, considering he is a Mexican actor, and the promo art showed references to Mesoamerican culture.
There have also been reports that the origin of Atlantis, where Namor is from, will be different inBlack Panther: Wakanda Forevertoo, with his home now being a sea city will be located in Mexico or another location in Central America. The character’soriginal comic origin follows Namor, who is born to a human father who has fallen in love with a princess from Atlantis. The character throughout the comics is typically in the role of an anti-hero, as he switches sides based on what’s best for the city of Atlantis. His powers consist of super-strength, speed, and stamina, while also being able to survive underwater.
While most of the information about Namor’s origin and role inBlack Panther: Wakanda Foreveris mainly based on speculation,Doctor Strange in Multiverse of Madnesswriter Michael Waldron addressed theabsence of the character from the film’s Illuminatiand has revealed that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has a plan for Namor in place. Waldron said to Variety, “We talked about him because he’s certainly an original member of the Illuminati. But I think Marvel has other plans for him in the MCU. And so, he didn’t make his way into this particular movie.”
Although it’s yet to be confirmed, it seems that the warriors of Wakanda may find themselves at war with the people of Atlantis. While key plot details aboutBlack Panther 2are still a secret, everything will be revealed about what’s next for Wakanda.
