Black Adamproducer Hiram Garcia has confirmed that the characters debuting in the upcoming anti-hero film could receive their own spinoffs. The characters being introduced, for those who don’t know, will be part of the Justice Society of America.
Black Adammarks the DCEU debut of Dr. Fate, Cyclone, Hawkman, and Atom Smasher, to name a few. The characters are potentialfoils to Black Adam, and they would certainly be formidable opponents for Dwayne Johnson’s anti-hero.

Of course, with the introduction of the Justice Society, fans are wondering if these heroes might one day be the leading stars of their own DC project. During an interview with Collider, Garcia said, “[We] introduce a lot of new characters in here, and a lot of these characters are big fan favorites, so we’re currently working on spinoffs that we can do for some of those characters.” Garcia added that although fans are going to start hearing announcements about these characters, until the paperwork is all settled, they can’t say “anything too definitive.”
Marvel Studios has been doing a good job at bringing their less popular characters to the front lines instead of only catering to what’s popular. “It’s a great time right now to do what we do and to have so many opportunities to tell these stories,” Garcia said about DC’s own roster of characters. “It’s just about picking the ones that rise to the top for us and help contribute to the overall vision that we have for this universe, so we’re fully in it, and there’s going to be more coming out.”
Right now it’s too early to announce anything concrete, and it would be wise to view fan feedback before green lighting a new project. The rumor about these Black Adam characters possibly getting their own projects is good news, as DC is often known formainly focusing on Batman, Superman, and the Flash for a lot of its projects. Characters such as Vixen, Batgirl, and Red Arrow aren’t often the first heroes many think of when they hear DC.
This is DC’s chance to play catch up by giving the heroes of lesser popularity their own time to shine. If a character like Peacemaker can get his own show, then its no surprise these other characters can as well. Black Adam will be Johnson’s debut into the DC comic book cinematic run that was started with Zack Snyder’sMan of Steel. The character will no doubt shake up the power dynamic of the DC comic book world by bringing in a new powerhouse who canrumble with the likes of Superman, Shazam, and Wonder Woman.
Johnson has viewedBlack Adamas a passion project of his, so there’s no surprise if this comes out as something that fans really gravitate towards or as something that fans want to see more of. The characters and world of DC go far beyond the Justice League, Batman, and Superman, so this is DC’s time to prove this to the world.
Black Adamwill be in theaters on July 29th, 2022.
