Post Voidis a technicolor arcade shooter in which the player sprints through procedurally generated corridors blasting the many enemies that get in their way, collecting upgrades and new weapons between levels to help them against the coming horde. Though the game only includes four weapons, each has important pros and cons that separate them from one another. Here’s everything there is to know about these weapons and which one is the best.

4Pistol

The Pistol is as simple and reliable as weapons come inPost Void. With a capacity of six and the ability to fire as quickly as the player can pull the trigger, the Pistol is capable of pumping out a steady stream of metal to melt incoming enemies. The Pistol is also the starting gun that players receive at the beginning of Act 1, so it’s the weapon that players will spend the most time learning and become most familiar with.

Fortunately, unlike some games that insist on giving playersterrible weapons at the beginningof the game and making them grind for something decent, the Pistol is viable from the beginning thanks to its high speed and decent ammo capacity.A jack-of-all-trades weapon, the Pistol doesn’t excel in any one area, but it’s more than serviceable early on. The main problem with the Pistol arises when the player reaches the game’s later Acts, where it’s simply no longer able to keep pace with the other weapons in the game, even with upgrades.

3Knife

The only melee weapon in the game, the Knife forces players to get up close and personal with the hideous monsters ofPost Void.Melee has far different demands than other playstyles, since the player must master sliding, jumping, and strafing if they’re going to get close enough to enemies to put their shiny blade to work without falling to a hail of bullets first.

The Knife has two attacks: a basic stab that takes multiple hits to kill most enemies, anda charged slash that will one-shot any enemy and even hit multiple foes at once if they are clustered together. It might not bethe best melee combat in gaming, but it sure is satisfying.

Learning to use the Knife well takes practice, which is an added barrier in an already difficult game and one that may keep many players from experimenting with it thoroughly. Those that take the time to learn this weapon well however will understand just how powerful it can be, especially since it eliminates the need to reload. Sliding around with a Knife is one of the fastest and most lethal combat styles in the game, not to mention it’sa ridiculously smooth combat style.

Post Void - Knife

Unfortunately, using the Knife means the player must be in enemies' faces the entire time, which makes enemies with ranged attacks even more dangerous than normal since they’ll have plenty of time to get free attacks off. An even bigger drawback is that most upgrades in the game apply only to guns, so by wielding the Knife they will be depriving themselves of powerful pickups between levels, which can make the game a lot harder overall.

2Shotgun

A classic weapon since the days ofDoom, the Shotgun is brutal, limited, and absolutely deadly. With a capacity of only two shots, the Shotgun requires players to hit their shots or be caught reloading at an inconvenient time and likely killed. The basekit Shotgun needs a bit of help, because between the slow fire rate and limited capacity the player doesn’t get many chances to put down enemies. On top of that, the Shotgun has a predictably short range. That said, this weapon will kill any enemy with a single blast regardless of where they are struck, and a single shot can kill multiple enemies if they are grouped together, making itone of the coolest weapons.

It’s when the Shotgun is upgraded that it truly shines. The best upgrades for this weapon are probably those that make up for its inherent weaknesses: increasing its clip size and reload speed. Other upgrades like rubber bullets can be useful, and in the right hands the Shotgun can clear a room faster than almost anything else, but none of these changes the fact that the Shotgun requires quite a bit of precision and expertise in the hectic gunfights ofPost Void.

1Uzi

Of every weapon in the game, the Uzi does the best job of demonstrating the difference betweenPost Voidandmethodical tactical shooterslikeValorant. With a 20-shot capacity and blistering rate of fire, the Uzi can throw bullets downrange like no other weapon in the game. Its sole weakness is the low damage its shots due when hitting enemy bodies instead of their heads.

Even this weakness isn’t that big a deal, however, since the gun’s recoil will cause shots to naturally drift up to the head anyway, ensuring the player will land a critical blow if they just keep shooting long enough. Unlike the Knife and Shotgun, both of which require precision strikes and will leave the player floundering in some of the game’s more hectic fights, the Uzi supports an easier spray-and-pray style of combat.

Post Void - Act 2

The gun’s true strength comes when paired with the Rubber Bullets upgrade, turning missed shots into a whirlwind of death around enemies, tearing them apart from all directions. Stacked with Rubber Bullets and upgrades to reload speed and magazine capacity, the Uzi becomes a lethal storm that lets the player walk through even the toughest battles with relative ease.
