It’s finally November, and that means that some of the biggest games of 2021 are just a few days away. One of the biggest isBattlefield 2042,the next entry in EA’s goliath shooter franchise. EA has promised thatBattlefield 2042will be a true next-gen experience, and nowhere is that promise more evident than the ray tracing trailer released earlier today.
Released on the Nvidia YouTube channel, the ray tracing trailer gives a look atBattlefield 2042running on PCwith RTX enabled, as well as a few other PC-centric features. It’s the most impressive trailerBattlefield 2042has released as far as visuals go, giving a great look at the flashy lighting effects that ray tracing provides.

On top of those RTX effects,Battlefield 2042will featureNvidia’s DLSS tech, AI software that helps keep game performance smooth. The feature has a demonstrable track record of improving framerates in the titles that support it while maintaining fairly consistent quality across the board. It’s one of the most impressive advancements that Nvidia has seen in quite some time, so it’s good to see it at work inBattlefield 2042.
The third feature that the trailer touts is Nvidia Reflex, which is meant to measure and optimize latency in competitive games, according to Nvidia. Coupled together, the features should make the PC version ofBattlefield 2042buttery smooth, compared to the alternatives. While the console ports aren’t necessarily bad performance-wise, there are some shortcomings compared to their PC counterpart. For instance,Battlefield 2042doesn’t support 120Hz on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
Notably, this footage was shot on a 30-Series Graphics Card. While it’s an impressive visual showcase, few players will be able to runBattlefield 2042at the level of quality shown in the trailer. Ray tracing alone is incredibly strenuous on PCs, especially with a game as demanding asBattlefield 2042. While most high-end gaming rigs will be able to take advantage of some of the features, fans with modest hardware should keep their expectations in check.
There are just a few more weeks untilBattlefield 2042launches, and marketing is starting to heat up. TheBattlefield 2042open betapainted an early picture of what to expect, and while it got a lukewarm reception, EA and developer DICE have already detailed some improvements coming to the final version. That includes basics like UI enhancements and other tweaks, though fans still have some big picture concerns about the Specialist system.
Battlefield 2042releases on November 19 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
