With the slow churning out of triple-a games the past year or so, developers have turned to updating their previous titles with better performance on the PS5 and Xbox Series X. For the most part, this includes popular titles likeDestiny 2, though plenty of other games have received enhancements. Now, a new game is entering the fold.Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, originally released in 2018, will be updated for the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
Ubisoft announced the change on Twitter via the officialAssassin’s Creedaccount. While the game won’t see any sweeping changes to visual fidelity or gameplay mechanics, Title Update 1.6.0 forAssassin’s Creed Odysseywill make the game run in 60 FPS in backward compatibility mode forPS5 and Xbox Series X consoles. The update will clock in at about 370MB on Xbox and about 470MB on PlayStation, according to the announcement.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has been criticized for being anAssassin’s Creedgame only in name – something thatValhallahas also been accused of – though the game has maintained consistently high critical scores. Most of the praise has been directed towardsAssassin’s Creed Odyssey’sopen worldelements and overhauling of the franchise’s RPG elements. Some have gone so far as to point toAssassin’s Creed Odysseyas one of the best open-world games currently available.
Ubisoft has done a decent job of supporting its backlog of games on the newer hardware, andAssassin’s Creed Odysseyis far from the first game from the publisher to receive such an update.The Division 2’s updateprovided similar improvements to its frame rate on the hardware and boosted the resolution up to 4K.Assassin’s Creed Odysseyuses dynamic resolution scaling, though it was able to run at 4K on the Xbox One X. Presumably, that will be the case here, too.
With Title Update 1.6.0, fans might have a reason to giveAssassin’s Creed Odysseyanother go. The game packs in a ton of content, and 60 FPS can make a considerable change to how the game feels to play.Assassin’s Creed Valhallaalso just had its Siege of Paris DLC release, too, so there’s plenty for fans to chew through right now.
There are, of course, still lingering questions about the franchise’s future.Assassin’s Creed Infinitywas recently confirmed, though there’s next to no information about what the game will be. It’s rumored to be a sort of evolving live service game, though it might be some time before fans find out for sure.
