Despite the popularity ofApex Legends, fans of  Respawn Entertainment are always interested in news regarding theTitanfallfranchise. WhileTitanfallwas set aside as Respawn shifted focus toApex Legends, watchful players have kept an eye out for any hint of furtherTitanfallcontent. In Respawn’s latestApex Legendsupdate, that first hint may have been dropped. A teaser for what’s believed to beApex LegendsSeason 5 refers to aTitanfallorganization named ARES, which stands for Archaeological Research Division.

This past weekApex Legendsdataminer Shrugtal discovered that several teasers were planned to be rolled out. The first teaser dropped this past Thursday andApex Legendsplayers scoured theWorld’s Edge mapfor it. It turned out to be in the Dome area and it was just a small collectible data device. The device is sitting at a desk with the ARES logo on it and the words “ACCESS GRANTED.” Players can then activate the device to receive a mysterious message.

ARES plays a key role inTitanfall 2. Stationed on the world of Typhon, General Marder of ARES seeks to us the Fold Weapon to win the war against the Frontier Militia. The protagonist ofTitanfall 2puts an end to that and the Fold Weapon was destroyed. However, General Marder escapes and is hinted to be at work with ARES again inApex Legends.

While the new teaser definitely implies that ARES  is at work again inApex Legends, it’s not necessarily meant to imply a direct connection toTitanfall 2.Apex Legendstakes place in theTitanfalluniverse, but so far the two games' stories have nothing to do with each other. Though to be fair,Apex Legendsdoesn’t have much in terms of a main story thread.

That doesn’t mean thatSeason 5 ofApex Legendswon’t take a step in the direction of tying the game closer toTitanfall, of course. It’s clearly something that the fanbase wants badly. It’s clearly something Respawn is capable of doing. Yet there does seem to be something holding Respawn back from pulling the trigger.

Season 4 ofApex Legendsis planned to end in early May and Season 5 might or might not pick up quickly afterward. Between then and now, Respawn has several more teasers planned, based on the datamined leak. What those teasers are remains a mystery. They may be more ARES teasers or they could be something else.Titanfallfanswill certainly be anxiously waiting to find out.

Apex Legendsis available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
