It has been eight years ever since Konami released a newSilent Hillgame, and fans of the psychological-horror franchise are beginning to lose hope on whethera newSilent Hillwill ever see the light of day. For the most part, Konami has been relatively quiet on the state of theSilent Hillfranchise, and nothing official, apart from a crossover withDying Light, has been released in years.
At the moment, the only thing that is keeping theSilent Hillfranchise in the consciousness of the video game community are rumors and speculation about a new game. Now, for those who are interested to know on whether or not a new game will be released sometime in the future, here are all the rumors surrounding theSilent Hill.

PS5 Exclusive Silent Hill Game
Just a couple of days ago, a rumor surfaced online that Konami has been secretly collaborating with Sony for a newSilent Hillgame exclusive to the PlayStation 5. The rumor came from business analyst Robert Serrano, who has a mixed track record when it comes to making predictions in the video game industry, so players should take this rumor with a grain of salt. Now, according to Serrano, this PS5 exclusiveSilent Hillgame will be revealed by the end of 2020. It’s worth noting that a good majority of video game events such as Sony’s State of Play and Tokyo Game Show have come and passed, but nothing was said about a newSilent Hillgame.
However, there is stillThe Game Awards, which is no stranger to being a venue where developers make surprise announcement of their games. Unfortunately, specific details about this PS5 exclusive game were not revealed, so it is unclear whether this game will be a new installment to the franchise, or a remake of any of the older games assuming it even exists. Nonetheless, there are only two months left for this year, so players won’t have to wait for too long to find out whether this rumor is true.

Silent Hill Shattered Memories Spiritual Successor
Last month, developer Sam Barlow who was the lead designer and writer behindSilent Hill: Shattered Memoriesrevealed last September that he is working on a new game that isa spiritual successor toShattered Memories. According to Barlow, he is not a liberty to discuss the game further, given that he was still in the process of pitching the idea at the time. However, the developer clarified on Twitter that this new project is not the same asProject A. Of course, while this new project is likely not a newSilent Hillgame, it may still give fans of the franchise andShattered Memoriessomething to look forward to, especially since Konami has been silent on whether or notSilent Hillhas been shelved for good.
Is Konami Hinting the Return of the Franchise?
As previously mentioned, Konami has been keeping quiet on the state of theSilent Hillfranchise leaving fans with nothing but rumors and speculation to cling to. However, it’s worth noting that several months ago, Konami appears to have been making subtle actions to bring backSilent Hillto the consciousness of its fanbase. This all started in August when Konami released a cryptictweet that contained audio ofSilent Hill 2’siconic siren. The tweet’s caption reads “Close your eyes. Always scary. Silent Hill 2 Siren.” As soon as the tweet was published,Silent Hillfans were ecstatic and thought that the studio was about to make aSilent Hill-related announcement.
Unfortunately, Konami issued a statement saying that the tweet was only meant to promotetheDead by Daylightcrossover. While Konami’s explanation makes sense, it’s worth noting that the studio also redirected fans to a newSilent Hilltwitter account, saying that any official news about the game will be posted there. Of course, while Konami never mentioned anything else about a newSilent Hillgame, it is unlikely for the company to create a new Twitter account for theSilent Hillfranchise if it has no plans to release a new game sometime in the foreseeable future.

In the end, the fate of theSilent Hillfranchise is still uncertain. Sure, there have been rumors claiming that a new game is in development, but unless Konami confirms this, they are nothing more but just rumors. Hopefully, the release of the PS5 and Xbox Series X this month would also usher in a new era fortheSilent Hillfranchise.
