A24has released the first trailer for director Alex Garland’s next film,Men. Last month the entertainment company, known for releasing unique and auteur-driven films, released a short teaser for the film, which stars Academy-award-nominee Jessie Buckley and Rory Kinnear.
The trailer forMenbegins with Buckley’s character, Harper, arriving at a secluded house in the English countryside where she’s greeted by the seemingly friendly caretaker Geoffrey (Kinnear). Things seem innocent enough at first until Harper takes a bite of an apple from a tree in the garden, which seems to bother Geoffrey. He claims he’s joking, but his menacing tone suggests otherwise. Harper is also haunted by the image of a man falling as she stares out of a window in horror. It becomes clear that this man was her husband, and the recently widowed Harper has taken this trip as an escape from the tragic loss.

TheMentrailer continues with Harper confiding in a priest (also played by Kinnear) as she explains how her late husband mysteriously died falling off their balcony. Oddly enough, the priest implies it’s her fault, suggesting her husband committed suicide, to which she seems appalled. Things get even weird as Harper explores the rural English countryside, only to see the same man everywhere, all portrayed by Kinnear. This even includes a particularly creepy child who bares Kinnear stern face. The rest of theMentrailer shows haunting images of Kinnear and his many doppelgängers terrorizing Harper, as she asks, “what are you?”
