A Quiet Place 2is officially out in theaters and once viewers have checked that movie out, they may be looking for more. The good news is that there are plenty of movies out there that can scratch the same kind of itch.A Quiet Place 2is an interesting film because it’s rather unique and yet quite similar to several other top-notch flicks.
speaking of those other to-notch flicks,A Quiet Place 2’s star, Emily Blunt has a wide-ranging career. While she’s taken parts in romantic comedies and period pieces, she’s often done action movies as well. She’s also done her fair share of alien invasion movies. One of those almostmade the list inThe Edge of Tomorrow. In the end, it didn’t simply because of the tone of that film and the most recent release in the long-running genre aren’t really the same. Not the least of which is because humanity won the fight inThe Edge of Tomorrow. That doesn’t preclude some of these films having that same basic plot point, but the tones feel somewhat similar to what fans are going to get withA Quiet Place 2.

10 Cloverfield Lane
10 Cloverfield LaneandA Quiet Place 2have similar settings as both are after an alien invasion has basically beaten humanity down. There’s also the fact that both films have the main characters spending quite a bit of time hiding away from those invaders. Of course, there are also very different takes on the same genre. In particular,Cloverfieldtells the entire story inside a bunker.
There’s also the little detail that for most of the film, it’s not entirely clear if there really is some sort of invaders out there, or if the man who owns the bunker is just stark raving mad. Apologies for the spoilers for those who haven’t watched the film yet, but there are indeed, quite a few deadly monsters out there in the world.A Quiet Place 2has no such mechanisms. There is no doubt that the aliens are there and have basically taken over the planet, or at least made the planet a more dangerous place to live for our heroes.
Bird Box
Netflix’sBird Boxis an entirely different filmfromA Quiet Place 2and yet there are some interesting similarities. One of the biggest is that both deal with one of the human senses. While sound is a very big part of the recently released film, sight is central toBird Box. Characters in the blockbuster film are warned not to make much noise, or else the creatures in the film will come and get them. In the Netflix movie, characters cannot look at the creatures, or else death is coming for them.
Of course, the one other big difference here is that it’s not made clear just what the ominous presence that has invaded the world is, exactly. There is also the fact that in both films, the characters are on the run, and interestingly enough is that both main protagonists are women tasked with protecting children from the big bad.
It Comes At Night
It Comes At Nighthas somesimilar points toA Quiet Place 2, though the general plot is entirely different. Instead of aliens, the antagonist this time around is a deadly disease that turns people into something like zombies. Though the people that contract the disease are not yet dead and aren’t hungering for brains. Where this movie is similar to Emily Blunt’s family hiding from alien creatures is that the family inIt Comes At Nightis also hiding in a secluded area, just trying not to be noticed.
Of course, in movies like this, that never works out how the main characters hope it will end. They are indeed found and then have to deal with the dangers that are encroaching upon them. Unsurprisingly, there are also kids at stake in this film, as these kinds of films always need to ramp up the audience’s interest to see the family get through things safe and sound.
Attack The Block
Attack The Blockis probably the strangest choice for this particular list, if only because it’s quite a bit more action-oriented than the others on this list. Of course,A Quiet Place 2has quite a bit of action in it as well, once you get past the periods of time when everyone is being as quiet as they can possibly be. There are also some aliens that come more in the form of creatures than humanoid beings. There’s also the fact that the creatures in this film don’t seem to have ulterior motives beyond trying to kill as many people as possible.

There’s also the fact thatAttack The Blockis getting a sequel. John Boyega of Star Wars fame is going to be coming back, to fight aliens that are attacking a section of London he and his gang have decided it’s off-limits because it’s already theirs. The big difference between the two movies is certainly prominent in that Attack the Block features an alien invasion fought off, whileA Quiet Place 2has the aliens setting up shop for quite a few years.
A Quiet Place
Yes, the first movie in what has become a franchise has to be on this list.A Quiet Placeis likely a requirementto watch before anyone watches its sequel. While there is some backstory explained, there are events that happened in the first film that needs to be seen to be believed. The opening scene of the first film is one that needs to be seen to truly absorb the emotional hits the film can deliver.
Both chapters in what is now a growing franchise are more than just another alien-based horror movie. Both have offered up compelling stories about families that are trying to survive in near-impossible situations. In order to really grasp that, there’s a need to actually watch both chapters and come to grips with several different stories packed into the main plot.
